Not that I'm actually expecting any of you guys to get this stuff for me, I'm just... putting it out there. Also this way it's more organized for my own use.

Falconry stuff:
Jess grease
Kangaroo half-hide, vegetable tanned
Digital scale accurate to 0.1g

Other stuff:
Galileo's Dream by Kim Stanley Robinson
Stranger in a Strange Land (Original uncut) by Robert A. Heinlein (Must say it is the original uncut version; would also go for Starship Troopers)
Caboose hoodie
Ghosts That Linger

Okay now I can copypasta it to my mom who's been nagging me for a list, wtf.

I really, really want to eat something that's battered and deep fried. Right now. Chicken would be ideal, or perhaps squid. Or oysters. I don't care. I want fried meat.

wtf, random food craving

From the CDC website:

What is CDC’s recommendation regarding "swine flu parties"?
"Swine flu parties" are gatherings during which people have close contact with a person who has 2009 H1N1 flu in order to become infected with the virus. The intent of these parties is for a person to become infected with what for many people has been a mild disease, in the hope of having natural immunity 2009 H1N1 flu virus that might circulate later and cause more severe disease.

SWINE FLU PARTIES? Wow. I hate people sometimes.

In other news, I did not go to work today. I am still not better, and my coughing kept me up all night last night. I won't give you all a laundry list of my symptoms because who really cares, but basically the only thing preventing me from going to get tested for H1N1 is that I just don't feel alert enough to drive right now. So I'm not going to say I do for sure have it, but I'm kinda wondering. Anyway, by tomorrow/Thursday I should no longer be contagious, at least. Here's hoping I haven't gotten too many other people sick in the process. I just wish I would stop coughing.

So hey, how about that Madras thing? :D Who's going for sure, and who's driving? I need to know this for sure. Especially so we know whether we actually do need to get a motel room or not.

My body is conspiring against me, I swear. I am bruised from Tuesday's concert, sore in a million places from lifting heavy boxes for two days in a row and standing nearly all that time, today began a most irritating time of the month, and I also seem to have come down with this uncontrollable hacking cough plus a headache plus I can't seem to get properly warm. Goddamnit. I just got over a cold, like, a week or two ago. At least I don't have work until noon tomorrow.

Hmm. Just got done with an interview with one of the managers at Dick's Sporting Goods. The guy really really really wants to hire me for a position in their hunting/camping/hiking area... for a $9/hr part-time job. Sigh. REI won't even be looking at applications for another two weeks, and I don't know what my chances there are. Meanwhile, I'm applying to several lab assistant positions in Beaverton, and they sound really great, actually, but who knows when I'll hear back on that.

Argh. I'm going to go back to drawing now.

Edit: FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU-

WHY, PHOTOSHOP, WHY???

Edit 2: Photoshop and I have worked out an agreement. And now, a work in progress to tease you with. )

I guess I felt like I needed something to raeg at this morning, so I watched Jesus Camp. Was a little bit disturbed by the fact that I wasn't as horrified at it as I feel like I should be, but maybe I'm just apathetic. Some of those kids impressed me quite a bit, actually - it's cool how passionate and knowledgeable they are about something, and Levi the little preacher kid was something else, man. Like a mini-adult, and a better public speaker and speechwriter than many college-age students I know. I just... agh, if only they were passionate and knowledgeable about something other than Evangelism, you know? I guess that's the thing. If those kids were into anything else it'd be awesome, but instead they'll grow up and become the sort of people you read about in the papers and can't help but hate because of what they stand for.

On a totally different note, an online CD seller has a copy of Institut Polaire's EP The Fauna and the Flora and man, if it wasn't $17 bucks, I'd buy it right this instant. But instead I'm waffling, and probably won't end up buying it, even though it's pretty much the only one I've ever seen. Maybe I should just do like I did with Nico and see if the band has any mp3s they can send me in return for some delicious paypal. :/ Though I don't think I will. Unless I can't find their upcoming LP when it drops. If it ever actually does come out. It's been delayed by at least six months, now.

Also, I really really really want this book. A lot. And I think I need to get back into drawing already. I haven't done anything beyond little sketches for ages. I feel like I'm losing my artist cred.

Nerd time: is it bad that I want to design a PnP RPG that would work for Halo/RvB?

Answer is probably yes, I realize. But I made that Sonic one and even if Mandy and I never finished the campaign, it was a pretty sweet game. Would've worked a lot better in person instead of online, but that's sort of a given with PnP anyway. So while I doubt I'd ever actually play an PnP Halo game? I just sort of want to... make a system for one.

Okay, I'll stop spamming you all with useless nonsense now. I should probably work on Aphelion instead.

Edit: Heyyyy, someone already made one. Sweet.

Finally caught up with the series 2 opener of Merlin. And I'm glad to see that it is still as lulzy and fail as last season, with only a moderately better CG budget. ;D (Actually, the gargoyles looked pretty good, and they interacted with the real actors pretty well, considering.) Merlin still looks like Fievel, but at least he didn't wear that stupid neckerchief this episode. And Gwen and Morgana had new dresses! Go costuming department.

Also, I don't know why, but every time I hear the slash dragon talk, I think of the Director of Project Freelancer. wtf? Maybe because John Hurt looks sort of like an older version of John Reed. And they both do narration stuff. But, uh. Totally different characters, what. ... At least, I hope so. That would be the weirdest twist in Merlin ever.

I am still sick. I still have no bird. Pretty sure Amelia's not anywhere in the area or I would've found her by now. Who knows where she took off to. Maybe she went home. Maybe Curtis and Wayne will come across her tomorrow, lol. If not, oh well. I still want a tiercel.

Also. You guys know Scribblenauts, that awesome DS game that can summon, like, anything? Yeah. I messed around in it today and discovered you can summon black holes. And Cthulu. And Longcat and Tacgnol. Freaking awesome.

Edit: I am way too entertained at the state of my computer desk right now. Pay stubs, Amelia's logbook, a cup of tea (black, milk, no sugar), a lemon drop martini, a sketchbook with weirdo sci-fi RP notes, roleplaying dice, several bracelets, a ball of yarn, measuring tape, a leather glove, GRE scores and a college transcript, and a book called Writing Papers in the Biological Sciences. I think this is pretty much an accurate reflection of me. Well, aside from the martini, but it helps with the cough goddamnit. What do you guys have on your computer desks right now? I am curious.

Went out to fly Amelia about an hour ago. The cold air and the mist in the trees mean one thing only - fall is here. I know it's supposed to get warm and sunny this afternoon and stay that way for a couple of days more, but I suspect that will be the end of it.

Much as I like summer, I've always enjoyed having a fall birthday. Something about that morning chill, the fog and the falling leaves is really beautiful. I know I don't have the same understanding of fall that those who live in the Northeast do, but here in the Northwest it's still a fun time of year despite the many conifers. There are corn mazes and pumpkins and cider, and the hawks migrate and the flock of eagles descends on Sauvie Island. And I suppose that typically, fall means time to go back to school, but I've never really associated the two, luckily enough. I'm one of those strange academics who doesn't actually like school. Sure, I'm eager to go back next fall so I can get my MS degree - speaking of which, agh, today is e-mail graduate professors day, so scary - but I'd much rather be out in the field, counting, tracking, catching, or flying hawks. Research and falconry go hand-in-hand, haha.

Anyway, I'll stop boring all of you with my rambling musings on the weather.

Oh, and apparently I'm 24 now. And I know people always say "oh I'm a year older, it doesn't feel any different" but, well. Since over about half of the past year I couldn't remember whether I was 23 or 24, and occasionally had to do the math in my head to remind myself, it really definitely feels the same to me. :D;

Point Lookout is awesome. It would be more awesome if it didn't crash every ten minutes, but you know, that's Fallout 3 DLC for you. There's these weird swamp gas bubble things which are pretty cool, but going near them just about breaks my computer. Alas.

And then I found the RvB Caramelldansen and was amused for a good while. No dancing Wash, alas. And this in turn led me to Luke McKay's random sketches page. McKay is the staff cartoonist at RoosterTeeth, so I guess that makes his depictions of the characters at least semi-official, and I was pleased to see that I had pictured many of the RvB crew similarly.

I've begun doing some actual solid work on Aphelion, so hopefully it won't be too much longer before we have the comms in some sort of visitable stage, at which point we will open reservations. Exciting! Although I'm a little concerned that players I don't already know will think of me as the scary mod. I mean, look at the two characters I'm going to play there. Sheesh. Maybe someday I'll play someone nice again. XD;
