Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] zolac_no_miko:

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.

"Shortly after that we orbited at Sanctuary. I was glad to be there, as the ship's internal pseudo-gravity field had been off for most of two days before that, while the Chief Engineer tinkered with it, leaving us in free fall - which I hate. I'll never be a real spaceman. Dirt underfoot felt good."

Starship Troopers, Robert Heinlein. So very full of excellent, but then we all know I have a Heinlein obsession.

... Yeah, that's all I've got for you. I took pictures of Penny today but haven't uploaded them yet. Perhaps tomorrow. She did some very impressive hovering, though. If I'd known she'd keep it up as long as she did, I would have taken a video.

Also, what is with Canadians grabbing/bumping our speed skaters tonight? My goodness.

You know what's really unfair? [livejournal.com profile] shinyget is out hawking right now and I'm not.

I know, right.

BUT. To make up for that, I'm going to finally put up some of my photos from OFA's fall meet, like, a month ago.

Aren't they pretty? )

Every once in a while, things happen at work that make me laugh. Not so much entertaining occurrences, although yes, those do happen ("DA-AAD! CAN'T WE DO SOMETHING ILLEGAL FOR ONCE?!"). But no, I mean more along the lines of finding a set of fishing lures which proclaim themselves to be X-TREME ACTION SLASHBAIT! And I'm like... lol wat. Or the Under Armour company, whose motto for whatever reason is "Protect this house", and every time I walk past those huge words on the wall I have to try really hard not to crack up because all I can think of is the scary-looking buff guys in the photo right next to it going "We must protect this house! We must protect this house!!!" with the voices of the Battle Creek Reds.

Guy Fawkes Day is tomorrow! I am excited. I need to obtain some firewood. More oats, too, as apparently I don't have nearly as much oatmeal as I had believed. Luckily, that is a problem easily fixed.

Penny is being adorable right now, d'aww. I'd go get my camera and take a picture but she'd probably bate as I walked past, thus ruining the adorable. But when she's happy, or sleepy, her white flank feathers puff out like a fluffy little skirt, haha. She's gone from being a floppy falcon to a fluffy falcon in a week. While she's more reluctant than Amelia to do things, like eat or fly to the glove or any of that, she's much friendlier and more comfortable around me. She doesn't bite except for rarely, she doesn't bate as much, and I can perch her out in the kitchen here as I eat breakfast and type, and she spends about 20 minutes biting at her jesses before giving up and turning into the content fluffy bird she is right now. It might just be a personality thing, or it might be that Penelope is a suburban bird who is used to seeing people, whereas Amelia was from out in the farmland. Who knows.
