So I got an email today from someone at this school's "Multicultural Center," whatever that means. They had a survey asking if students had even heard of the Multicultural Center, if we knew what it was for, etc. etc. One of the groups supposedly served by this Multicultural Center is the LGBT community. One of the last questions in the survey was the following:

"Which gender are you?

O Male      O Female"

Huh?

LGBT

O Male     O Female

Good work, Multicultural Center. Good work.

On that note, I think I need a new tag for my LJ: "wtf arkansas". I think it will get used regularly. Not that this problem is specific to this state, of course.

WE ARE TOTALLY DIVERSE AND ADVOCATE DIVERSITY. NO, WE DON'T ACTUALLY HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THAT MEANS. WHO WANTS AN AMERICAN FLAG STICKER? :D? :D?

Somewhat related to this but on the opposite side, I went to a conference up in Boys' Town (gay district) last week at The Center, which is the big outreach center there. The bathrooms are labeled "male identified" and "female identified". I had to take a sec to do a happy dance before I peed. Progress, however small...
