Nerd time: is it bad that I want to design a PnP RPG that would work for Halo/RvB?

Answer is probably yes, I realize. But I made that Sonic one and even if Mandy and I never finished the campaign, it was a pretty sweet game. Would've worked a lot better in person instead of online, but that's sort of a given with PnP anyway. So while I doubt I'd ever actually play an PnP Halo game? I just sort of want to... make a system for one.

Okay, I'll stop spamming you all with useless nonsense now. I should probably work on Aphelion instead.

Edit: Heyyyy, someone already made one. Sweet.

I totally want to see.

Well, there's this one (http://dsg.neko-machi.com/halo/halo-tcw-rpg.pdf), which looks pretty complete but doesn't seem to have anything more recent than Halo:CE, and uses the Fudge system, which I'm not familiar with.

And then there's this one (http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Halo_%28D20_Modern_Campaign_Setting%29), which is just a set of Halo-specific items, races, etc. using D20 Modern. I prefer this, personally, just because I like the level of character detail d20 gives, as opposed to Fudge which looks like it's more for quick and easy setup and gameplay. If one were to do a generic Halo campaign, the Fudge one is possibly better because of that, but in a character-driven story like RvB, D20 Modern seems like a better base for gaming.

I shall have to take a better look at it later, when I'm less tired and don't have company over. |D

...Man, can you imagine making some Freelancer OCs for a campaign? There could be some epic awesomeness.

From: [identity profile] shichahn.livejournal.com
Fair enough XD

Freelancers would work great for this, yeah. Better than the BGC cast in general, anyway, since they're all so freaking bizarre, haha. Though there would need to be a whole set of rules written for AI in either case.

Date: 2009-09-26 02:53 (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shinyget.livejournal.com
Yeah and the Freelancers got a lot of shit going on all the time, anyway, and are always mixed up in the plot one way or another.

AIs would need a lot of rules written for them. And probably their own stats, too, for their specialization or something.

Date: 2009-09-26 02:59 (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shichahn.livejournal.com
Yeah, I was including things like stats and skills and traits and all that under "rules". They basically count as a whole separate "race" under a d20 system... well, sort of a mix between that and the familiars and companions of wizards and druids in standard fantasy DnD. I might look into rules for magical familiars and adapt that for "dumb" AI. That could work. "Smart" AI would then get their own race, I suppose, if we needed one as an NPC at any point or something.

From: [identity profile] shinyget.livejournal.com
Yeah, since we could just say that if we used a Freelancer OC, they were part of the ones that had their AI removed/deleted, since that seemed to be the majority, anyway. Though, it'd be interesting to mess around with ones pre-that with an AU setting with missions and AIs and things.

From: [identity profile] shichahn.livejournal.com
Hey man, if I were to play a Freelancer, I'd want an AI. That's the fun part. :p Hence modifying the rules for magical familiars to work for AI instead.

From: [identity profile] shinyget.livejournal.com
Well, you said as an NPC, so yeah. :p

I said a smart AI as a potential NPC. As opposed to dumb AI/ifrag.

Date: 2009-09-26 03:14 (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shinyget.livejournal.com
Wait. Nevermind. "Smart" AI is not Freelancer AI. THIS IS HOW TIRED I AM.

Don't judge me, since I'd be interested in this, ho. 8(

I'd be sure to make a less complicated campaign should I GM again. The Sonic one was good for a real PnP campaign but really quite difficult to do over the internet.

Date: 2009-09-26 03:20 (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shinyget.livejournal.com
That would be for the best, yes. 8D; Though I'd think that'd be more difficult to do with RvB.

Date: 2009-09-26 03:25 (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shichahn.livejournal.com
Probably. RvB lends itself more intuitively to an RPG setting anyway because of how character-based it is already.

From: [identity profile] shinyget.livejournal.com
Which is part of what makes it awesome. If you decide to do it and need help, I can give it a shot.

Alright, well, I'll take a look at it. I don't necessarily have immediate plans to design and run a campaign, especially considering the neverending threads we already have and the work I still need to do on Aphelion, but it does sound like a fun idea that we should definitely try out at some point.

Date: 2009-09-26 03:36 (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shinyget.livejournal.com
If we ever, ever finish up the always growing list of threads, we could replace it with that. So, probably never. |D

I will gladly accept most of the blame for constantly thinking up random shit.

Indeed it is completely your fault. I approve, however. :D

Also, this is me remembering to tag that thread, woo. (I went to reply to this and was all like "wtf why do my icon keywords look- OH, RIGHT".)

From: [identity profile] shinyget.livejournal.com
I can't help it if I like character-based things. Too much potential, man.

Psh, so forgetful.

ghost_bullets: (I can't believe I died for this war)
From: [personal profile] ghost_bullets
Yeah. I am. Since I forgot to tag that thread, then remembered and switched accounts, and then immediately forgot I'd switched accounts. That is some serious forgetting.

From: [personal profile] ghost_bullets
Well yeah, we know this. If it weren't for you, I'd forget stuff that's happened to my own characters all the time. ... Actually, no, I do forget that stuff, I just wouldn't have anyone to remind me.

Date: 2009-09-26 03:55 (UTC)
crankypsychoex: (Coming for you bitch)

It will always amuse me that I remember more shiz about your characters than you do sometimes. I don't know how I remember all the little details, man.

ghost_bullets: (Yeah that sounds pretty cool)
From: [personal profile] ghost_bullets
I don't know how you do it either. Obviously. Otherwise I'd steal your trade secret.

I take notes. Lots and lots of notes. ;D Subconsciously, of course.

PnP can work over the internets too. I run an FFRPG campaign and I've been in DnD / others that turned out to be fun

Date: 2009-09-26 03:22 (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shichahn.livejournal.com
Yeah, well like I said, Mandy and I did one for quite a while. It's just a lot slower than it is in person, and I really think you lose something in not having face-to-face interaction in a PnP game. But obviously you have to sacrifice that if you want to play with people you can't see every week. XD

Date: 2009-09-26 03:25 (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dr-sipp.livejournal.com
Yeah, but it has the plus of being more coherent (you can write stuff out instead of saying MY CHARACTER DOES THIS 8D) and, story-esque maybe? To me PnP is like as collaborative story, the GM is the writer and the players are the characters. :D;

But yeah, that's true :B;

Date: 2009-09-26 03:32 (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shichahn.livejournal.com
Oh yeah, for sure, as far as the GM and player relationship goes. In my experience, both online and face-to-face PnP games are evenly story-oriented, too, but it depends a lot on the GM. The only reason I'm talking about GMing and having a character in the comments above is because typically the PnP games Mandy and I have been doing online are run with just the two of us, and it'd be boring to have just her character and a bunch of NPCs. XD
