Awh, Burnie liked my art. I feel all happy now.

In other news, yes, everyone by now has heard about our latest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. I, like many others, was quite confused by this initially, until I read more into what the prize is about and why the committee believed Obama deserved it. For those who are still unsure, go here and here. There. Now I don't have to spam everyone who's all "wtf??", you can go read for yourselves. ;D Basically, yes, it does seem a little early perhaps, but I think it's deserved, and as I said to Ayries,

"Now that he's a Nobel laureate, he's got the entire rest of his term to live up to it. Not that it prevents him from, say, sending more troops to Afghanistan, but surely the fact that the international community have pinned this on him means he'll be thinking about it every time he has a major decision to make."

And if you need more, go read for yourself at wikipedia and, when the site's done being hammered, the Nobel website itself.

Okay now on to other things. HEY PDX CREW! That mosque right next door? Had an open-house Ramadan feast with delicious things like chicken korma and makhani chicken and rice pudding and all that... on September 5th. WE MISSED IT ARGH. Let's watch that place more closely and see if another holiday with delicious food comes up so we can have delicious feastings and learn more about another culture.

Also, I have located the correct corn maze field (ie - not the one we did last year but the one I remember being epic from previous years and dear god does it look like a tough one this fall). Admission is $7. They also have a haunted maze - smaller and less challenging, but, you know, haunted, and only open after dark. That one's $10. I personally prefer the more difficult but daylight-only maze, but either would be cool.

And now finally, a meme from [livejournal.com profile] hikaritoyamii.

My answers can be found here.

ETA: AGH WTF WEATHER?? Hey Dar, bring your plants indoors this weekend if you can. Temperatures are supposed to drop down into the 20s overnight this weekend.

Walked around downtown today. That was fun. I attempted to locate some new clothes for myself, but I hate clothes shopping, am too picky, and dislike spending money on things I don't consider worth it... like clothes. I found several awesome t-shirts at Buffalo Exchange but I decided that I didn't want to spend $14 on a t-shirt at a thrift store. So that was that. I also tried trapping sparrows downtown, since there are a lot of them there, but the pigeons always got the bait first. And I didn't really want a pigeon. Kestrels probably don't have the near-immunity to frounce that Merlins and Peregrines have, anyway. And I happened to be doing it right near lunch, and a ton of people started showing up, so I gave up on trapping for the day.

I did manage some successes, though. I found a copy of T.H. White's The Goshawk from, like, 1951 and managed to read about half of it throughout the day. He's such a fantastic author, and man, I'm so glad my first bird wasn't a goshawk. But it's fun to read about his experiences, haha. I also had dim sum for lunch with my mom - not at the real dim sum place but at the Asian Station lunch cart, which was pretty awesome anyway, even if they didn't have the amazing lotus-wrapped rice with barbecued pork inside.

I also managed to entertain myself by judging people's reactions to Church!shirt. I walked into a Gamestop and browsed, and the guy behind the counter grinned - can't be every day a girl walks into a gaming store with a RvB shirt on, I'm sure. Any thoughts of preordering Wii Battletoads were abandoned because he just looked too happy for me to crush him. And I didn't really want to get kicked out anyway. Then, while sitting in O'Bryant Square before lunch, while reading and attempting to trap sparrows, two nerdy guys walked up, sat not too far away, and began talking rather loudly about some sort of RPG they were involved in. Possibly a DnD variant, although I couldn't quite tell. Anyway, whether that was coincidence or not, I don't know, but I like to think they were attempting to get my attention in a very sad sort of way because of Church!shirt. Though if that was really the case, they should've talked loudly about RvB. So who knows. Maybe they were just idiots.

And now, meme! )

Edit: Here, have some silly RvB icons that I just made.

So. I'M BACK. FOR... well, probably not for good. But at least for a good long while. That's sort of like for good, right?

And might I say that I am very disappointed in you right now, PDX. Man, I come back hoping for sun and warm weather, but it was like 70 and cloudy the whole way. That's right, Portland has the same weather as the freaking coast right now. I know the heat wave sucked, but I was glad to be here for a few days in the middle of it. Hopefully it will get warm and sunny again soon. This sort of weather isn't supposed to be regular until at least September. :/

Anyway, now that the internet and I are acquainted once more, expect updates on Aphelion soon. That's right, coming soon to an internet near you, the long-awaited RP of mystery and intrigue and asteroid colonization that Angela and I have been planning for... a long time. I'm excited. I hope all of you are as well!

Related to this is that I need help testing my new character, so go talk to him if you want to. I can't say he'll be appreciative of the attention but that's too bad.

Oh, and beware spoilers in advance. He's pre-Reconstruction but I can't guarantee the content of comments to come. And there are some things in that show that one really should not be spoiled for.

Why don't I have a PS3? ;___;

And hoooooly crap, I finally got around to watching Sarah Palin's resignation speech. Oh my god wtf is she on? The first minute or so, she's decent, and then it just plummets downhill. I have no idea what she was even saying. I gave up about eight minutes in; it was taking way too much effort to make sense of her words. How did she even get to be governor in the first place?

Anyway, I suspect I will be leaving within the next 2-3 hours to head back to work at the coast, thus abandoning all of you for about a week. But that's all. It's been an awesome couple of days, hanging out with Dar and Angela and James and Becca and Hannah, and also getting to chat with all of you I only ever see online. If I don't make it back on the internet before I get back, well, I'll see you all in a short while anyway. :Db

Typical post-post edit: HOLY FUCKING SHIT I LOVE THIS BAND. That is all.

Portland! It is warm here! Funny how that works, haha. But man, it just never really feels like summer at the coast. Sort of a perpetual between-seasons feel, what with how it stays at about 70 degrees at the highest at this time of year. 100 F is uncomfortable, somewhat, but I mostly don't care because it's nice, in a way, to actually be a bit hot during the summer. Kind of how it's supposed to be or something.

Anyway, I got into town a bit early - we left straight after banding, so I got to spend Saturday night with the usual suspects, including Becca and Hannah! What fun. Six people in that little apartment is sort of chaotic but in an extremely entertaining way. There was much RvB and Boosh watching, including a fair amount of said video-watching occurring late at night in the courtyard, which was great. And now Angela is all caught up with RvB, so she gets to suffer through the excruciating cycle of one brief chapter a week! What can I say, misery loves company.

And now I fully expect to spend most of my break going back and forth between here and there, playing Fallout 3 while here and doing entertaining nonsense while there. And then I'll disappear again on the 29th, but not for very long this time, of course. And man, when I get back, some delicious dim sum is in order. That is for sure. That, and Aphelion. And my kestrel. Wooo~

Oh, and speaking of Aphelion, everyone say hi to [livejournal.com profile] ghost_bullets. I don't have all his icons up yet, but and I am looking forward to playing him. >:D

And now, a meme. This is an old meme, but since it's been a great long while since I did it, I have decided I want to do a new version of it. This is a music meme, and here is how it works:

1. Pick a number between 1 and 2050 (the number of songs currently in my iTunes)
2. I will talk a little about that song, and upload it for you to hear.

Yep. Easy. So go ahead, pick a number!

Edit: And this other meme, too )
