Seriously. And there are a lot of stupid people out there.

Here's one kind of stupid: Alien-ated Youth. How the hell did this get into the Houston Press? That's a real newspaper, not a tabloid! WTF? I feel really sorry for those kids. And I hate new-age hippies like whoa now. >_o

Ready for more stupid? Let's keep the topic alien related just because it amuses me. First off, we've got this story, which basically says that Paul Hellyer, a former Canadian Minister of Defense, is asking the Parliament of Canada to hold public hearings on what the policy should be in dealing with extraplanetary visitors. Don't laugh yet, this isn't the stupid part. The guy's serious, and it's a good thing to do, I think, to establish some kind of protocol as to what to do in that situation should it arise. The reason he's asking for this now leads in to the stupid. He's pushing for some sort of policy because the current US policy is to shoot down any ET aircraft and salvage the technology for ourselves. Way to go, government, show your true diplomacy skillz. ._.; Hellyer is deeply concerned by this policy and how it can be perceived in relation to the weapons base Bush wants to build on the moon (and no, I'm not making that up, and neither is Hellyer; Google it if you like, Bush is really pushing for it). He warns that "The United States military are preparing weapons which could be used against the aliens, and they could get us into an intergalactic war without us ever having any warning. He stated, "The Bush administration has finally agreed to let the military build a forward base on the moon, which will put them in a better position to keep track of the goings and comings of the visitors from space, and to shoot at them, if they so decide." Now of course the main aim of the moon base is not to shoot down ETs, but the fact is that if the military policy is "shoot first, ask questions later" then there's just one more reason why they shouldn't have a weapons base on the moon. o.o;

The second bit of stupid that comes as a result of this speech? The Conservative Voice reports "Canadian Leader Says Bush Responsible For Coming Intergalactic War." And the only part of his speech that they cite in the article? The bit about the moon base, of course. AAAAGH I just want to get away from these people. Yes, Hellyer does not want US weapons on the moon. But his speech was about why Canada should have an ET diplomacy policy, not why Bush is going to start an intergalactic conflict. They completely reversed the entire meaning of his speech! It just makes me die a little. Ugh.

I hate stupid people. So much.
