Should've known I'd fail at updating a daily meme.

Day 02. Your favorite movie

The Matrix. There are lots of movies out there that are better movies, sure, but due to the sheer number of times I've seen this and the major impression it's left on me as a result, there is no doubt that this is my favorite film ever. It's amazing, and I'm so sad its sequels just didn't live up.

Day 03. Your favorite television program

Hmm. That's hard. Unlike the song and movie questions, I don't have some single show that my affection for is so lasting. Doctor Who is way up there, though, mostly because I love how much history it has. Angela and I have been watching lots of Classic Who, which is great fun. Another contender is BSG, but only because I'm currently watching it, I think. I sort of fell in love with the first season, and there have been some great moments since then, but the energy, the serious and difficult situations combined with the immense elation after they survive some of those early attacks produced some intense emotional responses that just haven't been recaptured in the later seasons.

If RvB was on television it would probably win this for me, being as it is not only my current obsession, but has been consistently awesome since I started watching it in high school, even if I took a few years' break.

Day 04. Your favorite book

Oh god. How can this be answered? There are so many amazing books out there and I love so many of them. My favorite author right now is Robert Heinlein, so there's a start, but actually I think my favorite individual book might be Snow Crash. It's the perfect combination of cyberpunk with Stephenson's typical history lessons in between. And it was one of the major inspirations for The Matrix, so, you know. Points there. The other book that may well be my favorite is Ishmael, by Daniel Quinn. Which, if you haven't read it, you really should. A pretty convincing argument against modern large-scale agriculture, of all things, but it's fantastic.

Day 05. Your favorite quote

"To live in the past is to die in the present," Atrus, Riven. I know, I know, a quote from a video game, but if you've never played that series, well. It's like a couple games rolled up in a philosophy course. Which is awesome. And that one line has stuck with me for years and years for some reason, but I think it's something more people really ought to remember. We regularly look back to the good old days, thinking that what came before us must be better than how things are now, but nostalgia is a funny thing in that it's a complete lie. I don't know why our mind does this to us, thinking back on the past with such fondness, but it's interesting, and occasionally damaging, especially when it affects society as a whole.

Portal progress bar: 75/76! Slightly less than one hour to go! omgomgomg

Edit: Well done, internets. Well done.
