Alright. I must relate this epic and mighty tale to those who have not yet heard it. It is a story that will be retold for at least a few more days! That means it's epic! Yes!
Anyway, as many of you know, this weekend was the release of Conqueror of Shamballa in American theaters. There are only two theaters on the west coast showing it. One is in Los Angeles. The other one? In Kennewick. Yes, Kennewick, WA, one of the Tri-Cities. A very small nowhere town in the middle of southeast Washington, about 45 minutes from Walla Walla. Not Seattle, not Portland. Kennewick. We just don't ask.
So our plan for Friday was to leave a couple hours early to give us time to find our way and also get something for dinner. I looked up the theater ahead of time and it gave me a link to a Google map, and so we plotted out our route to the theater.
We got to Pasco without a problem, but all was not to go so well. We came across a sign on the side of the freeway stating our exit was closed. So we took the detour, which ended up being poorly marked and clearly only useful for locals, leading us in a circle that eventually ended at a factory of some sort with a fence around it. So we turned back and eventually figured out where we were supposed to go despite the horribly confusing detour. Until we found that the street that was supposed to take us to our bridge also was totally gone and had a detour around it. Eventually we got out of Pasco and into Kennewick. All was good. So we continued along and followed the directions... Until we found ourselves in a nice little residential district. Which was quite pretty. But had no theater in it, despite our directions. So we decided to keep going, figuring the theater had to be nearby and that we'd see it from a reasonable distance away. At this point we were pretty hungry, too. We stopped at a Subway eventually to eat, and to ask for directions. Subway girl was quite helpful and did indeed give us directions to the theater, and so off we went. We found the highway with no trouble at all, and so we continued on, looking for the Clearwater exit we had been instructed to turn off on. Well, after a while, we found ourselves in Richland. Knowing this was in fact the wrong city entirely to be in, we turned off the highway and went into a Hollywood Video to ask for directions once more. The clerks at the desk tried to give us some new directions, and mentioned that the exit we needed to take was Columbia Center Rd, which we had actually passed by on the way to Richland and considered turning off onto. Then a couple who was standing next to us, renting a movie, overheard us andsaid that they were going to the Olive Garden right behind the theater, and that we could just follow them. So we did. Which was a very very good thing because we would never have found that place on our own. Once we had taken the right exit, the streets got all very very confusing and crazy. Anyway, around 8:00 we finally found ourselves at the Kennewick Carmike theater. We had an hour and a half to burn until the movie. What ever would we do? (To be continued!)
