shichahn | Hermann Oberth

I keep seeing Heiderich's name spelled "Heidelric." Annoyed, I went to the coolest site ever to confirm that Heiderich has no l in it (in Japanese the literal spelling is "Haideruihi," I discovered, meaning that the -ch is pronounced more softly than the hard c sound I had been using.. but hey, I don't speak German, how was I to know?). Then I looked closer at AlH's description on this image and confirmed that indeed, Heiderich is an apprentice to Hermann Oberth, who was mentioned by Ed at the end of the show (you know, the guy in Transylvania studying rocketry). Out of curiosity, I googled Oberth and came up with this very cool page. Oberth apparently is known as the "father of space travel," finished his dissertation in 1922 (it was rejected) and published his massive research paper in 1923, the year in which Conqueror of Shambala takes place. If the film crew researched this far (and they probably did), Ed will have been with Oberth for some interesting things during the two years between the show and movie. Also, though I *highly* doubt this is as important as I want it to be, Oberth has black hair and in the movie will be nearly 30 years old, and my stupid speculative brain is hoping he might by some chance be Roy's double (he won't be).
